HOW TO CHOOSE A DOOR

Now our client base has expanded throughout Europe and America we are no longer able to offer our services to measure all of the doors we manufacture. But we have the following steps which make it easier for new clients to calculate their own dimensions and opening direction. If followed every door will fit and work perfectly.

LEFT OR RIGHT

To work out if your door opens left or right, observe the diagram below. If you look at the door as it opens toward you (NOT the point of entry) and the hinges are on your right, then the door is right hinged. If you look at the door and the hinges are to your left then the door is left opening.

Example:

Things to note when deciding which way to hang your doors:

- We recommend that light switches are located on the side of the door handle.
- No furniture or objects should be hit when opening the door.

DOOR DIMENSIONS

SBS Design produce all of our doors to customer specific measurements, we do not have a standard size, but the following sizes could be considered as standard:

Width:

bathroom, toilet, storeroom, laundry room – 70 cm.
bedroom, children’s room, kitchen, office - 80 cm.
- living room, entrance door – 90 cm.

Height: – 200 cm.

Width of the frame – 15 -25 cm.

Dimensions different from the above are considered as non-standard, BUT at SBS Design are devoted to the production of made to measure interior and exterior doors, if you have any concerns or questions  please do not hesitate to Contact Us

MANNER OF OPENING

Generally the door will open into a room from the outside of the building, corridor or hallway, this is for both privacy and for general safety reasons. If it opens out onto a corridor or hallway there is a chance that someone walking past may be struck  by the door as it opens.
There are exceptions, fire doors open outwards and areas with limited space such as a small toilet or bathroom may need to have a door which opens out of the room. In this case you could select a sliding door which is a great space saving option.

Fly Hinges are available for doors which need to swing both ways, these are commonly used in restaurants and bars, but would need a window to ensure the door does not open onto an obstruction or another user.

Do not clean or scrub the doors with any abrasive or aggressive cleaning detergents as you may damage the varnish.
